One Brick at a Time Part I

Ruhala Performing Arts tapped me to do poster work that would promote their upcoming show One Brick at a Time.  In this version i provided them with a rendition of what type of poster i’d like to promote. Unfortunately, this poster was never printed. The art direction was inspired by some posters that i’ve seen during my time as a avid concert goer.

This type of work was primarily oriented toward building something artistic to me and something that I couldn’t do with clients in different industries. Again they eventually went with the poster that is in part II

All the fonts were House Industries fonts. A favorite font foundry of mine.

Scorpion Lacrosse T-Shirts

Scorpion Lacrosse is a high end lacrosse stick manufacturer from Bloomfield hills, Michigan. I designed the t-shirts in mark of their release of their new lacrosse stick. Tshirts were to be given as swag during home games around the area at local high school lacrosse games. Their target market were predominantly high school teens between 15-19. The logo required retracing. The logo was originally developed by hand sketch by Scorpion lacrosse.

Scorpion needed a high end type look and their colors were predominantly charcoal grey, black, and maroon as their sticks were all branded in those colors

The copy was determined by their marketing department: “trade up”.

The art direction was handled by Nicholas Chilenko during my tenure at Nicholas Creative Media, a small design shop in Novi, Michigan.

Cardone

Cardone is a wedding videography business based outside of the suburbs of Ann Arbor. They needed a design placed for the yellow pages. The ad was black and white and 4.833″ x 3.166″.

I provided this service for them to attract higher end clients. The client provided the copy and i did the art direction. I wanted the look to feel rich and professionally done and stand out from the rest of the crowd.

They really never had an identity to their name. Picking the type was very easy. I felt  that the serif picked: filosofia would exude the elegance and style needed upon a cursory glance.

iKlickz Identity

IKlickz needed an identity and a logo to push its social media website. The logo was suppose to be inspired by the art type of iCarly.com and Disney.com. The principal of iKlickz wanted the identity to be somewhat clean like ask.com as well.

Making a logo and identity for a client like this isn’t easy. The description of what she wanted sums it up. You don’t know what direction to go toward but you must test the waters by providing the client with quick and dirty mockups in illustrator.
It was definately an interesting situation. Her description of what she intended allowed me various different concepts. Narrowing down to one precise one was not the most easy process. In order to make budget constraints: taking a leadership role and making decisions was the way to do this. Making decisions for the client (in her best interest) was the solution for this situation. In this situation, taking leadership was the driver of success when your client isn’t too sure what they desire.

Enrichment Care International

Enrichment Care International is an aupair group who wanted to develop a brand identity. This is a client which i’ve worked with during 2007 for 3 Point 7 Designs. The client desired a look that established trustworthiness, international appeal and care (for lack of better work at this moment).

Typical with my process, I went through several sketches and that lightbulb went off while i was rendering some of them. A eureka moment came to me after playing with glyph forms. I came up with 2-3 concepts and the one that i’m posting is the final choice.

Premier Energy

Premier energy was a website that 3 Point 7 Designs designed. I had involvement in producing a photoshop layout and production code in xhtml & css.

This was a fun project. I enjoyed it because it was we had to create a concept that incorporated their logo. Premier energy is a renewable energy company that sells carbon emissions to offset your carbon footprint.

iKlickz.com

iKlickz.com is an incarnation of two oxford based parents who wanted to move and build an online community utilizing phpFox. Phpfox is a myspace social network clone. The only difference is that it’s built in php and can be administered by anyone.

This was my last project at Ottaway Communications, Inc before I left. Unfortunately, as of today (October 7th) they never retained my art concept and direction.

Parameters: The project had many parameters. First, building around phpfox is difficult. The markup is not up to speed and designing with a table based layout limits the capabilities of any designer. Additionally, cost was a big issue. Cutting corners and limiting the amount of hours spent on custom coding was a huge concern. So therefore we had to stay within the boundaries of what PHPFox can do.

Safe Key Lock & Storage

Safe key Lock & Storage is a storage company that wanted a new Online home. They also wanted target specific groups with different messages and bargains. Their business is primarily targeted toward women ages 18-30.

The idea and concept behind the design was warm inviting colors. In addition, blue was another decision made because it is the color of the doors. A main concern of mine was providing trust with a the visitor. By using calming and less vivid palette we would want to give the ambience of a safe well lit storage facility. The other concern would be creating a balance between functionality ( ensuring visitors convert by calling ) and aesthetics.

Role:  Art Direction, Graphics Production, Coding.

Technologies Used:  xHTML, CSS, jQuery

Lessons Here: Learned some new tricks and implemented and used the background plugin for jQuery. Very helpful for creating visually interesting effects. As well as learned to use ajax for the contact form.

Status: Project has been launched. Visit the website: http://storage-annarbor.com

Oakland County Park Flash Banners

While at Ottaway Communications, I was given the privilege to animate and tween banners for Oakland County Parks.

The offer was to provide families an incentive to purchase tickets in bulk for the summer. The flash banners were in 5 different sizes. All the banners were the same concept and design: 120×600, 160×600, 300×250, 468×60, 768×90

The concept and storyboards were developed by me.

The parameters for this project are the following:
